Miranda Newbauer Hudson was born in Brooklyn, where she spent her early years people-watching throughout the five boroughs. She now lives and works between Seattle, New York, and the Bay Area. Her sculptures and paintings draw from life and imagination, giving shape to objects, scenes, and personalities that exist somewhere in between.
She has been creating her entire life, with an increasing focus on painting and sculpture. She works in ink on paper, in thickly layered acrylic and ink on plywood, and in baling wire shaped and bent by hand. Her sculptures range in scale from 2 inches to 10 feet tall.
With ink and paint, she brushes, scrapes, and pours, allowing the process to unfold. With wire, she makes elaborate plans—sometimes involving hundreds of tiny pieces that require meticulous, repetitive work. Her pieces often turn out differently than intended, but that is when the magic happens.
